The One Question That Can Change Your Business (And Your Life)

filed under:

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that first and foremost, I am a dreamer. A journal-filling, soul-searching, ever-curious kind of gal. I was that friend in college who hated small talk and had a list in her notes app with my favorite questions to ask new and old friends alike. And to this day, while I’m not meeting friends for coffee every day after classes, I am still that gal asking the big, beautiful questions — the ones that make you pause, ponder, and just maybe see yourself in a new light.

And so naturally, when I sit down with my clients, I bring that same energy. I want to know the depths — what are the things they long for, and maybe haven’t given themselves permission to say out loud.

And with this, there’s one question I keep coming back to. In my experience, I have found it to be the question that cuts through the noise and gets right to the heart of things.

The One Question That Can Change Your Business (And Your Life)

“If you and I sat down three years from today at our favorite coffee shop, and you told me, “Oh my god, Abbey, my life, my business, literally everything is better than I ever could have imagined…what are the things that would have happened in those three years to make you feel that way?”

That’s it. The core. The vision. The unspoken dreams just waiting to be named.

Some of my clients know their answer to this one question instantly. Others need a second to sit with it, to let themselves want what they really want. But once they say it out loud, everything shifts.

Often, the answer touches on pieces of their story we likely would have already hit on. Their current state of business, the reason they reached out to work with me. They’ll hit the top level desires of wanting more clients, more money, more brand exposure.

But soon, with some gentle nudges from me along the way, they soon  focus on what life actually feels like. The moments. The alignment. The deep, full-body yes.

Some tell me:

“I’m working the most dreamy weddings I could ever imagine — not just aesthetically gorgeous, but with couples who knew they wanted to work with me before they even got engaged, the kind of couples that my husband and I could grab a drink with as friends afterwards….”

Or…

“I finally have the freedom to stay home with my babies and run a business that both pays the bills and gives me flexibility…”

Or…

“Honestly, I’d be offering this totally different thing that I don’t think anyone wants right now…”

THIS is what we’re working toward. Not just a “successful” business, but a business that fits your actual, real life. Over the years of hearing these answers, I’ve realized that most of us are really craving the same thing: to do less, but better.

Less clients, better connection. Less projects, better alignment… and so on.

This “less, but better” place can feel impossible. But I believe in you, friend.

So tell me — three years from now, what does your life look like? 🤍
